As we wrap up another incredible year, we’re excited to share all the latest updates, highlights, and special events that have defined this month. Whether you’re reflecting on the past year or ready for a fresh start in 2025, this newsletter is packed with news, inspiration, and opportunities to stay connected. So, what’s been happening in December?
- Office Renos/ organised our space.
- Hired new friendly faces to the MTH team.
- Held multiple staff inductions.
- Facilitated multiple RESPITE stays Our mowing team has expanded lawn locations- WOOHOO.
- Welcomed new participants to MTH.
- Hosted our MTH staff and participants Christmas parties.
- Our social group attended the Christmas Carols!
Needing RESPITE? We have THREE locations ready!
Needing time to rest and recharge? RESPITE is paramount for caregivers to allow them temporary relief and a break from caregiving responsibilities while ensuring the individual with a disability is receiving necessary care and support.
Respite can take on various forms such as in-home support, community- based activities, over-night stays and STA. These preferences are tailored to the needs and preferences for the participant and caregivers.
We currently have three homes in the Hunter region: Edgeworth (with a male participant), Birmingham Gardens (fitted with an accessible ramp and swimming pool) and Waratah West (newly renovated).
Common Myths About the NDIS Debunked!
The NDIS provides essential support for Australia’s that are living life with a disability but there are still many misunderstandings surrounding how it works. We are here to clear up some common myths.
- The NDIS is only for people with severe disabilities: The NDIS is for anyone whose disabilities impact their day-to-day life, whether the condition is mild or severe. It’s about ensuring everyone can receive the support they need.
- Joining the NDIS means losing other support: The NDIS works alongside other services. Your plan is unique to you and is there to complement existing support.
- The NDIS is limited and hard to access: The NDIS has been created to meet individual needs. While there is a process to follow many people successfully access the support, they require with funding being able to be adjusted over time.
- The NDIS is only for adults: The NDIS is for children as well with early intervention services being a key program helping children with disabilities live their lives.
- It’s too complicated to understand: The NDIS may seem complex but there are many levels of support available to help navigate your way through the process (e.g.: planners to customer services teams.)
- You have no choice of services providers: The NDIS is all about choice and control and gives you the flexibility for you to decide your services providers ensuring you get what you need
Tips and Tricks
The holiday season can get overwhelmingly busy, but with a little planning you can enjoy a stress-free festive period!
- Plan ahead: create a to-do list ahead of time for shopping, cooking and decorations. Use an app or planner to stay on track!
- Stick to a budget: we know things can get tight around Christmas but stick to a spending limit for gifts, activates and food. Consider making a gift rather a buying, use newspaper as wrapping paper to keep costs low!
- Simplify gift giving try secret Santa or gift exchange to make shopping easier. Try buying a voucher for an experience to do something fun and unique.
- Prep meals in advance: plan your menu ahead of time, freeze things, use a slow cooker or make items the day before.
- Keep decorations simple: focus on key decorations like a wreath for a centre piece, reusing decorations or DIY decorations.
- Delegate tasks: get everyone involved by delegating courses, e.g.: entree, main, salad dessert etc. Make the day a team effort!
- Create traditions: start a friend or family tradition or watching Christmas movies the night before or baking together Christmas eve.
- Embrace holiday spirit: Christmas is about kindness, connection and joy. Do what you can through small acts of generosity like volunteering or donating gifts to the Kmart Christmas appeal!

Tasty Treats in the Treehouse by Ivan
Turkish Delight Rocky Road
- Ingredients: 200g Dark Chocolate 200g Milk Chocolate 3 Cups Marshmallows 3 Turkish Delight Bars 1 Cup Roasted Peanuts What you’ll need: mixing bowl wooden spoon microwave safe bowl Setting dish Knife Chopping board baking paper
- Instructions:
- Break up dark and milk chocolate in microwave safe bowl. Microwave for 1-2 mins until the chocolate has melted and combined! Set aside to cool.
- Cup marshmallows, peanuts and Turkish delight into squares.
- Put into bowl then add in melted chocolate into the chopped mix.
- Once everything is combined line setting dish with baking paper then pour rock road mix into setting dish.
- Place inside fridge and allow to set for 1-2 hours.
